This year in April I sat my MJDF part 1 examination and passed it. Here's a brief guide on how to get through the preparation process and succeed in the examination. Note that the pattern keeps updating and please do check the official MJDF website for the latest format.

3. Master Dentistry (vol 1 and vol II - latest edition)
4. Best of Fives in Dentistry by Douglas Hammond
5. EMQs for Dentistry by Douglas Hammond
6. MCQs for Dentistry by Kathy Fan
7. SAQs for Dentistry by Kathy Fan

Other Books:
Paediatric Dentistry by Welbury
Introduction to Orthodontics by Laura Mitchell

Exam Format

150 BCAs (Best choice answers) in 3 hours. Exam was not negatively marked. This was the best exam that I ever took. The examiners were super awesome, stationery was provided and the environment was very comfortable. Probably the only exam where I felt mentally relaxed during the whole process.

Preparation Guideline

This is one of the best exams that I ever sat for in my life. Reason being the preparation, curriculum, and the format. If you are a dentist from sub-continent, the preparation of this exam will show you how little you knew before and what a changed dentist you are after taking this.

Prepare as soon after graduation as possible. Your knowledge will be fresh and it will be easier to study. In my opinion, the exam requires 4 months on average for good preparation. If you have good concepts, the exam is going to be a piece of cake for you.

Oxford Handbook of Clinical Dentistry is the main book for this exam. Read it thoroughly. It looks like a very small book but it has EVERYTHING written in it. You can miss a lot if you don't pay heed to every single word written in this book.

Master Dentistry series helps as a side book with oxford. But it is very detailed and some of the stuff written in it is not necessary for the exams.

Do follow the facebook groups that I shared here and solve the mcqs to practice. The MCQs books and the past mcqs in the facebook groups are very important and I believe in order to pass the exam, they are a must!

Exam covers the latest clinical guidelines so make sure you follow the nice guidelines, sign guidelines and BDA advice sheets.
